FIFA Ranking position

The Mexico national football team were consigned to their loss in the Copa America Centenario quarter-finals (2016), trounced 7-0 by Chile. In a pair of semi-finals in 2017 they were beaten 4-1 by Germany in the Confederations Cup and lost 1-0 to Jamaica in the Gold Cup. The Mexicans won through to the world cup of this year with a 1-0 win over the Panama national football team - Los Canaleros - on 1 September 2017 securing qualification with three matches remaining. El Tri will meet Germany, Sweden, and South Korea in Group F.
