EURO 2024

Knockout Phase

The six groups A to F each consist of four teams. The top two teams from each group will directly advance to the final round. Additionally, the four best third-placed teams will qualify for the round of 16. This means that 16 teams will continue the battle for the title in the knockout stage.

Qualification via the 1st and 2nd place in the group stage

When the group stage of EURO 2024 is completed, the teams that have qualified as first and second place in groups A to F will be determined. After exciting matches and many goals, the following teams will advance to the knockout stage:

These teams have directly qualified for the final round and will continue the exciting battle for the title in the knockout stage. The four best third-placed teams will also advance to the round of 16 and have the chance to pursue their title dreams further.

The ranking of the third-placed teams is determined by the following criteria in descending order:

  • Number of points from all group matches
  • Goal difference from all group matches
  • Number of goals scored in all group matches
  • Number of victories
  • Fair play ranking
  • Ranking in the European Championship qualification (or, if Germany is involved, drawing of lots)

Fair Play Ranking (FP)

According to Article 20.01 of the UEFA regulations, the fair play ranking is calculated based on the following point total:

  • Yellow card 🟨: 1 point each
  • Yellow-red card 🟨🟥: 3 points each; first yellow card is included
  • Red card 🟥: 3 points each

EURO 2024

Schedule in the Final Round

In the final round, the winners advance, and for the losing teams, the tournament ends. Further placements are not contested. Unlike the World Cup, there is no "small final" for third place.
