The 2021 European Football Championship is officially called UEFA EURO 2020 and will take place from June 11 to July 11, 2021 in ten European cities and the Asian city of Baku. It is the 16th edition of the competition, which has existed since 1960. As in 2016, 24 UEFA national teams will take part in the finals. 20 teams were determined through the European Championship qualification, four more through the play-off tournament of the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League.

The tournament was supposed to take place from June 12th to July 12th, 2020 for the 60th anniversary, but has been postponed for a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 24 men's national teams will initially compete in six groups in the group stage. The best 16 teams then compete against each other in the knockout system, the final round.

From the group phase to the knockout phase

Groups A to F each consist of 4 national teams. The group stage is followed by the knockout round. The two best teams of the six preliminary round groups and the best 4 third-placed teams qualify for this knockout phase.

The following criteria apply to the order of the third parties:

1. Number of points from all group matches
2. Goal difference from all group matches
3. Number of goals scored in all group matches
4. Greater number of victories
5. Lower number of fair play points
6. Scoring in the European Championship qualification
